Communicate With Ease - Marion M. Piccolomini, M.S.,CCC/SLP

Client Experiences

A medical professional was concerned about her ability to clearly communicate to her patients due to her accent. Although she learned English as a child in her country she was not confident in her spoken English skills. After completing a Speaking American English program she reported that she was able to use words she had been avoiding due to improved pronunciation skills, had greater success communicating with her patients and had a new confidence in her speaking capabilities.

"We engaged Marion as an ESL instructor to deliver customized on-site instruction to one of our corporate partners, as part of the "Corporate Connections" program here at Ursinus College. I found Marion to be extremely professional, organized and diligent in all aspects of the engagement. She helped to create a program that fit the needs of the client exactly, worked independently and creatively and in general represented Ursinus College extremely well. I would not hesitate to engage Marion again, as part of our outreach efforts."

An accountant found that his accent was interfering with his ability to do presentations at professional conferences. He decided to enroll in the Presentations Skills program to address his concerns. The program included presentation organization and methodology objectives, pronunciation and grammar training. The program utilized audio and video recordings to enhance feedback and build his ability to analyze the precision of his speech. At the conclusion of the program the client was excited to say that he felt confident with his new speech pattern which was reinforced by his successful use of the skills for a professional presentation.

A pharmaceutical professional was anxious to participate in a Group Spoken English program because his communication skills where interfering with his ability to effectively communicate in the workplace. Since his job required frequent English communication with a multi cultural workforce he had a specific need to speak clearly and concisely. At the conclusion of the program the participant reported positive feedback from coworkers and management regarding improved communication skills.

A financial institution wanted to address communication training needs of their multi cultural workforce. They requested a one day workshop to address general communication needs. The workshop addressed joint objectives but also provided each participant with recommended strategies to address individual needs. At the conclusion of the workshop the participants reported the program provided useful strategies and management planned to incorporate the ideas into other professional training programs.
