Public Speaking Skills/Presentation Skills
Giving an effective presentation is a challenging task especially for an individual who must present in a language that is not his or her primary language. Presentations require clear speech, fluent verbal expression, non verbal communication, and cross cultural communication skills. The Presentation Skills program is designed to address the aspects of public speaking that are necessary for effective presentation skills. The program utilizes presentation software such as Power Point to practice slide development using concise English. Audio or video recordings are used during the program to build the individual's ability to analyze skills. The program is offered in two different formats: Weekly meetings, 2 hours per week for 10 weeks and a fast track program 2 consecutive days of training.
Program Description
- The participant's communication needs are assessed during an interview with the participant and employer to determine the communication demands of the workplace.
- Instruction provides strategies to improve language skills, pronunciation skills and intonation patterns based on the assessment.
- Strategies to address presentation organization skills including slide preparation.
- Instruction in the use of audience strategies for gaining and maintaining the audience's attention and considerations for a multi cultural audience.
